Meet the Presenters of The 99: Leah Darrow

by Leah Darrow | Aug 22, 2019 | Discipleship | 0 comments

Leah Darrow

Introducing Leah Darrow, the next presenter in our Meet the Presenters series, where we introduce you to the faith-inspiring speakers in Ascension’s new system for evangelization, The 99.

Leah is an international Catholic speaker, author, and founder of Lux University, an online membership site for Catholic women who want to grow together in the Faith. She earned her master’s degree in theology from the Augustine Institute, and delights in sharing the good news of Jesus Christ. When not on the road evangelizing, you can find Leah at home with her husband, Ricky, and their five children in St. Louis.

Find out more about her story below.

1. When did you first feel called to evangelize?

I was in the second grade, and after learning about the Blessed Mother, ran up to anyone who would listen and told them all about her. I still feel that same sense of urgency to share the good news of Jesus Christ.

2. Do you remember the first time you stepped forward and shared the gospel with someone?

After my reversion back to the Catholic Church, some of my old friends wanted to meet up and party. I met up with them so that I could tell them to their face that I couldn’t do what I used to do anymore. Many of them were confused and felt that I was shaming them because I wanted to change. When they asked why, I just said, “I met Jesus, and believe he wants more from me.” With that, I turned and left. At the time, I did not consider this evangelization, but it really was. I was witnessing to the Truth. It was hard, it was definitely misunderstood, but it was, nevertheless, Truth.

3. How has your life changed since then?

Everything has changed. Everything. Like many, I personally relate to “for this my son was dead, and is alive again; he was lost, and is found” (Luke 15:24). Christ’s mercy renews and heals all. I don’t know where I’d be without it.

4. Have there been any particularly memorable moments in your life as an evangelist?

Many. I have been so blessed to hear how many have come back to Christ Jesus and accepted his mercy, but one of the most memorable moments as an evangelists happened in southern France at the Basilica of St. Mary Magdalene. I was asked to give my testimony on her feast day, in her Church, and above her crypt.

That day, July 22, I realized was also the anniversary of my baptism—and St. Mary Magdalene is my confirmation saint. To be able to witness to the unfathomable mercy of Jesus, with St. Mary Magdalene by my side, in a sense, was a moment I will never forget.

God and his saints are all around us, cheering us on, praying for us, and helping along the way. It was a beautiful moment where I was evangelized by St. Mary Magdalene’s faithfulness and courage while evangelizing to others about Christ’s mercy. Only God could have orchestrated such sweetness.
