To Anyone Thinking About Leaving the Catholic Church

There are many reasons to think about leaving the Catholic Church: hypocrites within it, hard teachings, the lure of other beliefs (to name a few).

It would be easier to not be a faithful Catholic, to just go to church when you wanted, use contraception, and do things the way the culture around us suggests.

The teachings of Christ are not always easy, but Christ’s words mean more than anything else. The Faith is countercultural. It’s hard to go against the stream, but we need people who are willing to go through the struggle

Our choices are to be part of the Church Christ established, follow some other religion that was not established by Christ, or make up our own belief system and our own god or gods. Anyone thinking about leaving the Church only has the latter two options.

If you know someone who has left the Church, help them fall in love with Christ again. If you are thinking about leaving yourself, where else is there to go? Christ alone has the words of eternal life (John 6:68). Remember Christ’s words:

“Every one who comes to me and hears my words and does them, I will show you what he is like: he is like a man building a house, who dug deep, and laid the foundation upon rock; and when a flood arose, the stream broke against that house, and could not shake it, because it had been well built. But he who hears and does not do them is like a man who built a house on the ground without a foundation; against which the stream broke, and immediately it fell, and the ruin of that house was great.”

Luke 6:47-49

The division of Christianity is a scandal. Christ wants us all to be one as he and the Father are one (John 17:21). Christ has one bride, the Church. When we leave, God’s family becomes broken.
