Our world is afflicted by conflict and suffering today. And where is the voice of the Church? Jeff Cavins recounts his experiences and the cultural shift that occurred during the Jesus Movement in the late 1960’s and early 1970s. These are the days of Elijah, and it is our turn to stand up and demonstrate the Gospel to this generation.
Snippet from the Show
We need to demonstrate the gospel with the way we talk, the way we live, and the way we treat one another.
Shownotes
Luke 9:7-9
Herod the Tetrarch heard about all that was happening, and he was greatly perplexed because some were saying, “John has been raised from the dead”; others were saying, “Elijah has appeared”; still others, “One of the ancient prophets has arisen.” But Herod said, “John, I beheaded. Who then is this about whom I hear such things?” And he kept trying to see him.
“These are the Days of Elijah!” Song by Robin Mark
These are the days of Elijah
Declaring the word of the Lord
And these are the days of your servant Moses
Righteousness being restored
And though these are days of great trial
Of famine and darkness and sword
Still, we are the voice in the desert, crying
Prepare ye the way of the Lord
The Jesus Movement
An evangelical Christian movement in the late 1960s and early 1970s beginning on the West Coast of the United States and spreading primarily throughout North America, Europe, and Central America before subsiding by the late 1980s.
How the Jesus Movement Impacted Culture:
1) The faith of young people was not hidden; it was not something that was considered private but something to be shouted from the rooftops.
2) Christians provided answers to the questions that culture was talking and singing about.
3) The attitude was that nothing was impossible with God.
4) We walked in solidarity, we were with each other!
1 Corinthians 2:3-5
And I was with you in weakness and in much fear and trembling, and my speech and my message were not in plausible words of wisdom but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power, that your faith might not rest in the wisdom of men but in the power of God.
