Embracing Poverty: Trusting God in Our Weakness

All of us experience moments of poverty in different ways. Sr. Mary Grace, Sr. Anne Immaculée, and Sr. Veritas delve into the theme of poverty and explore how poverty and powerlessness can bring us closer to God. They share their own experiences of letting go and reflecting on the blessings hidden in our weaknesses. The Sisters challenge us to embrace our own poverty with trust and gratitude, finding deeper intimacy with Christ as we learn to depend on God.

Shownotes

“ God never wants us to be discouraged by our poverty in any way.”

Quotes
  •  ”Poverty means vulnerability.  Christ emptied himself and took the form of a slave. Poverty is in powerlessness.  Holiness is not an addition, but in subtraction”.  Cardinal O’Connor

  • “The first beatitude is addressed to everyone because poverty is a part of the human condition, we all are going to encounter it in one form of another at some stage of life. And he says, when we encounter the trial of poverty, Christ mysteriously draws near to us and plums its deaths together with us, asking the decisive question, here at this point in your life, do you or do you not believe in me?” – Cardinal O’Connor

  •  ”There is no power so great as the power of powerlessness if united with the powerlessness of Christ on the Cross. Christ did not make possible the salvation of the world through his teaching, his preaching, and his miracles.”-  Cardinal O’Connor

The Sisters of Life are women religious, who profess the three traditional vows of poverty, chastity, and obedience, and a fourth vow to protect and enhance the sacredness of human life. They were founded by Cardinal John O’Connor in New York in 1991, and received formal approbation as a religious institute in 2004, under Cardinal Edward Egan.
The mission of the Sisters of Life includes serving women who are vulnerable to abortion, giving them the support and resources to be able to choose life for themselves and their children; hosting weekend retreats; evangelization; outreach to college students; and helping women who have suffered after abortion to encounter the mercy and healing of Jesus Christ.
