Feel Like Quitting?

Do you ever feel like throwing in the towel? Whether its a job, a relationship, a life situation, or a health complication, there are times when we just feel like quitting. Jeff wants to share with us inspiration for those tough times, and so he tells the story of three Bible heroes who demonstrated remarkable tenacity in the face of incredible obstacles.

Shownotes
Should you quit?
  • Fist you must discern if this is a situation that does require quitting.
  • Use prayer, good council and consult with your spouse.
Tenacity
  • Describes the personalities of people who are associated with the Kingdom of God
  • Another description is loyalty
2 Samuel 23:8-12 – David’s mighty men
  • Josheb-Basshebeth
    • Tenacity in the face of overwhelming odds.
    • 2 Samuel 23:8-8 These are the names of the mighty men whom David had: Josheb-basshe′beth a Tah-che′monite; he was chief of the three; [a] he wielded his spear [b] against eight hundred whom he slew at one time.”
    • Josheb slew 800 Philistines.
      • Odds of victory are astronomical but he probably didn’t know there were 800.  If you knew what was coming you’d probably quit.
      • Emphasis isn’t on his strength, but on the 800 to show his tenacity. Imagine the temptation to stop after 693.
    • Philippians 4:12-1312 I know how to be abased, and I know how to abound; in any and all circumstances I have learned the secret of facing plenty and hunger, abundance and want. 13 I can do all things in him who strengthens me.”
    • 1 Cor 12:11-12- “11 All these are inspired by one and the same Spirit, who apportions to each one individually as he wills. 12 For just as the body is one and has many members, and all the members of the body, though many, are one body, so it is with Christ.”
  • Eleazar
    • Tenacity in the face of overwhelming fatigue.
    • 2 Samuel 23:9-10– “9 And next to him among the three mighty men was Elea′zar the son of Dodo, son of Aho′hi. He was with David when they defied the Philistines who were gathered there for battle, and the men of Israel withdrew. 10 He rose and struck down the Philistines until his hand was weary, and his hand cleaved to the sword; and the Lord wrought a great victory that day; and the men returned after him only to strip the slain.”
    • Hebrews 12:3-“3 Consider Him who endured from sinners such hostility against Himself, so that you may not grow weary or fainthearted.”
    • Col 3:17- “17And whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.”
    • 1 Cor 10:31- “31So, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God.”
  • Shammah
    • Tenacity in the face of a humble assignment.
    • 2 Samuel 23:11-12- “11 And next to him was Shammah, the son of Agee the Har′arite. The Philistines gathered together at Lehi, where there was a plot of ground full of lentils; and the men fled from the Philistines. 12 But he took his stand in the midst of the plot, and defended it, and slew the Philistines; and the Lord wrought a great victory.”
    • James 1:2-4- “Count it all joy, my brethren, when you meet various trials, for you know that the testing of your faith produces steadfastness. And let steadfastness have its full effect, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing.”
If the Lord gave us this assignment – it is worth it. Ask Him for the tenacity to follow through.
