Mary Is Faithful

Throughout Scripture, we see examples of Mary’s faithfulness. She is the first disciple from the moment she said “Yes” to God at the Annunciation. Her faithfulness continued from there to the Nativity to finding Jesus in the temple to the wedding at Cana to the crucifixion. Even after Christ’s death and resurrection, Mary is with the Apostles, praying and waiting for the Holy Spirit.

Persevering as Disciples

In 2 Timothy 2:11-12, it is written “This saying is trustworthy: If we have died with him we shall also live with him; if we persevere we shall also reign with him. But if we deny him he will deny us.” This and other quotations from Scripture tell us that if we persevere as disciples, we will share in Christ’s resurrection. This is Mary. Mary persevered. She remained faithful. She never turned away from God. It makes sense then that God would reward her.

The Story in Revelation

In Revelation 12, there is an image of a woman clothed with the sun and moon under her feet. The chapter continues by saying the woman gives birth to a son who rules the nations with an iron rod. Later, the son is taken up to Heaven. All of this imagery points to Mary being the woman described. In Revelation 12:6, it is written “The woman herself fled into the desert where she had a place prepared by God.”
