Quote from John Paul II in Evangelium Vitae

The one eliminated is a human being at the very beginning of life. No one more absolutely innocent could be imagined. In no way could this human being ever be considered an aggressor, much less an unjust aggressor! He or she is weak, defenseless, even to the point of lacking that minimal form of defense consisting in the poignant power of a newborn baby’s cries and tears. The unborn child is totally entrusted to the protection and care of the woman carrying him or her in the womb.

Spiritual Battle

When it comes to the topic of abortion, there is a lot of noise around the issue. In fact, it can be hard to see what the real fight entails. Currently, there is so much conversation around the supreme court, the senate, healthcare, etc. However, what we need to remember is that this is ultimately a spiritual battle. This is not a battle against flesh and blood. This is a battle against the devil.

A Battle Since the Beginning

Throughout history, there has been an attack on life. The devil hates all human beings. Think back to the time of Moses and how many babies were killed by Pharaoh. Again, in the time of Jesus, Herod also had so many innocent babies killed. Finally, today there are millions of innocent babies who have been killed in the womb. Thousands are dying each day. What we need to remember though is that periods of renewal are preceded by great trials. We have been in a time of great darkness, but the light is coming.

Do Something

St. John Paul II said, “ At this stage in history, the liberating message of the Gospel of Life has been put in your hands. And the mission of proclaiming it to the ends of the earth is passing to your generation. This is no time to be ashamed of the Gospel. It is a time to preach it from the rooftops!” Beyond proclaiming the Gospel, we can also pray and fast. These are not small things. Prayer and fasting are essential to win this battle.
