Problems: Be a First Responder

How do you respond when a problem suddenly arises in your life? Many of us face problems in our lives that we did not plan for and did not expect. When problems do arise, it can be difficult to know what the right response is. Today, Jeff Cavins dives into this common life experience and shares wisdom from Scripture to help each of us be great first responders.

LET JUDAH GO UP FIRST

Judges 1:1-2 Who shall go up first in battle?  Judah

Judges 20:18 Who shall go up first in battle?  Judah

They are asking a very important question.  When we engage in battle, conflict, difficult situations, life-threatening battle, what should we do first?

What’s our first step?

God says, “Let Judah go up first”.  Why Judah?  Maybe because that’s the line of Jesus?

The answer is found in the meaning of Judah.  Judah means “Praise”.

Judah comes from the root word “Yadah,” meaning to throw or cast.  When used in the Biblical text, it takes on the meaning of confession or declaration of who God is and what He does.

Psalm 79 We can see this in action.

By truly confessing our sins and confessing who God is in the battle, we avoid making praise a formula to get out of trouble.  Instead, praise is a repentant heart crying out for God in the time of battle.

1 Sam 17:41-47

David gave praise to God in a battle with the Philistine giant.

Keeping this truth about praise in mind, listen to Psalm 91.

2 Chronicles 20

Dramatizes the value of prayer that is filled with praise.
