Instagram, St. Ignatius, and Spiritual Exercises

When we see something beautiful, are we concerned with the encounter with God, or with taking a picture to post on Instagram?

When we put more emphasis on the means the the end, we’re missing out on something great.

St. Ignatius talks about this. He says, “The human person is created to praise, reverence, and serve God and by so doing to save his or her soul.”

God created these things to have an encounter with him, but they are just a means to an end, and the end is God.

Colin struggles with this himself. He plans to use this time before Lent to reorient himself toward God, and to put him as the focus of his life.

Meet Your Host, Colin MacIver:

Colin MacIver, host of the Tightrope podcast, with his family

Colin is an enthusiastic transplant to vibrant Louisiana, where he lives with his beautiful wife Aimee and two energetic children, Leo and Zélie. His juggling act involves being a husband, a dad, a teacher, a youth minister, a musician and a national Ascension content creator and trainer.

In his spare time, he eats too many crawfish, savors king cake, plays one-on-one kickball with his son, and tries, for the life of him, to properly load the dishwasher.

Check out Colin’s latest work with Ascension:  Power and Grace: A Guide to the Catholic Sacraments and Quick Catholic Lessons with Fr. Mike.

  1. Both is best. Sit with the beauty and thank God, then post a photo so it’s shared and captured for future reference.
