Don’t Be Afraid of the Dark

Today, Jeff explains how we can bring light into our lives to combat the darkness of the world.

Shownotes

“We look at everything that is going on in the world with the understanding that ultimately, darkness will be defeated here and forevermore by Jesus Christ. We have won, but the battle rages.”

Shownotes

“Where the Madonna is at home the devil does not enter; where there is the Mother, disturbance does not prevail, fear does not win.” – Pope Francis, homily at St. Mary Major

“said these things to you, that in me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world” – John 16:33

“I do not pray that thou shouldst take them out of the world, but that thou shouldst keep them from the evil one.” – John 17:15

“For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh and the lust of the eyes and the pride of life, is not of the Father but is of the world.” – 1 John 2:16

How Do We Overcome the World?

“For everyone who has been born of God overcomes the world. And this is the victory that has overcome the world—our faith. Who is it that overcomes the world except the one who believes that Jesus is the Son of God?” – 1 John 5:4-5

Overarching Perspective!

“And they have conquered him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony, for they loved not their lives even unto death.” – Revelation 12:11

1. Do not be conformed to the world

“Do not be conformed to this world but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that you may prove what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.” – Romans 12:2

2. Be faithful

“For whatever is born of God overcomes the world; and this is the victory that overcomes the world, our faith.” – 1 John 5:4

3. Be of good cheer!

“I have said this to you, that in me you may have peace. In the world you have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world.” – John 16:33

4. Be a light of the world!

“‘You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hid… Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.’” – Matthew 5:14, 16

5. Obtain godly wisdom

“Let no one deceive himself. If any one among you thinks that he is wise in this age, let him become a fool that he may become wise. For the wisdom of this world is folly with God. For it is written, ‘He catches the wise in their craftiness,’” – 1 Corinthians 3:18-19

6. Focus on God’s coming Kingdom

“Training us to renounce ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live self-controlled, upright, and godly lives in the present age, waiting for our blessed hope, the appearing of the glory of our great God and Savior Jesus Christ.”

7. Overcome evil with good

“Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.” – Romans 12:21

The Reward for Overcoming

“But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.” – 1 Corinthians 15:57

Ephesus

“He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches. To the one who conquers I will grant to eat of the tree of life, which is in the paradise of God.”

Smyrna

“He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches. The one who conquers will not be hurt by the second death.”

Pergamum

“He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches. To the one who conquers I will give some of the hidden manna, and I will give him a white stone, with a new name written on the stone that no one knows except the one who receives it.”

Thyatira

“The one who conquers and who keeps my works until the end, to him I will give authority over the nations, and he will rule them with a rod of iron, as when earthen pots are broken in pieces, even as I myself have received authority from my Father. And I will give him the morning star.”

Sardis

“The one who conquers will be clothed thus in white garments, and I will never blot his name out of the book of life. I will confess his name before my Father and before his angels.”

Philadelphia

“The one who conquers, I will make him a pillar in the temple of my God. Never shall he go out of it, and I will write on him the name of my God, and the name of the city of my God, the new Jerusalem, which comes down from my God out of heaven, and my own new name.”

Laodicea

“The one who conquers, I will grant him to sit with me on my throne, as I also conquered and sat down with my Father on his throne.”
