10 Bible Verses on Fear

Fear is all around us as we face this global pandemic, but the Lord does not want us to worry, he wants us to trust. Jeff looks up ten Bible verses on fear that can help us look to the Lord as our help, instead of relying solely on ourselves.

10 Bible Verses and How to Put Them into Practice

2 Timothy 1:7 – “for God did not give us a spirit of timidity but a spirit of power and love and self-control.”

  • Practice self control with the news, social media, our appetites, and our emotions.

Romans 8:15-17 – “For you did not receive the spirit of slavery to fall back into fear, but you have received the spirit of sonship. When we cry, ‘Abba! Father!’ it is the Spirit himself bearing witness with our spirit that we are children of God, and if children, then heirs, heirs of God and fellow heirs with Christ, provided we suffer with him in order that we may also be glorified with him.”

  • Know who you are: you are a free son or daughter of God the Father.

1 Peter 5:6-7 – “Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that in due time he may exalt you. Cast all your anxieties on him, for he cares about you.”

  • Recognize the proper relationship we have with God (we are not smarter than God, this is happening for a reason) and cast your cares on the Lord.

Psalm 56:3-4 – “When I am afraid, I put my trust in thee. In God, whose word I praise, in God I trust without a fear. What can flesh do to me?”

  • Do you trust him right now?

Psalm 23 – “The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not want; he makes me lie down in green pastures. He leads me beside still waters; he restores my soul. He leads me in paths of righteousness for his name’s sake. Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I fear no evil; for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff, they comfort me. Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of my enemies; thou anointest my head with oil, my cup overflows. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life; and I shall dwell in the house of the Lord for ever.”

Joshua 1:9 – “Have I not commanded you? Be strong and of good courage; be not frightened, neither be dismayed; for the LORD your God is with you wherever you go.”

  • Know that God is with you wherever you go, or wherever you don’t go. Give encouragement to others who are struggling.

Matthew 6:34 – “Therefore do not be anxious about tomorrow, for tomorrow will be anxious for itself. Let the day’s own trouble be sufficient for the day.”

  • Take care of today, and don’t worry about tomorrow (we’re not meant to handle the fear of today and tomorrow!)

Isaiah 43:1 – “But now thus says the LORD, he who created you, O Jacob, he who formed you, O Israel: ‘Fear not, for I have redeemed you; I have called you by name, you are mine.’

  • God knows your name, he has called you, and he has claimed you as his child. Recite this verse with your name in it.

John 14:27 – “Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid.”

  • God’s peace vs. the world’s peace: which are you searching for? Pray often, “Lord, I receive your peace.”

Psalm 94:19 – “When the cares of my heart are many, thy consolations cheer my soul.”

  • How can you console others as God consoles you? Put your faith into practice.

Bonus Verse!

John 20:19- “On the evening of that day, the first day of the week, the doors being locked where the disciples were for fear of the Jews, Jesus came and stood among them and said to them, ‘Peace be with you.’

  • We’re living in a time of locked doors, put Jesus is there too. Invite him in, and ask him to show you peace.
