How to Receive Holy Communion

In Holy Communion, God seeks our friendship by inviting us to receive his infinite love for us. Sr. Mary Grace, Sr. Ann Immaculée, and Sr. Marie Veritas explain why receptivity plays an essential role in activating our faith and deepening our relationship with God. Together, they meditate on the sacredness of Communion and share how we can prepare our hearts to encounter God with reverence, gratitude, and joy.

Snippet of the Show
“Before we receive Christ, God himself is receiving us.”

Shownotes

Quotes

  • “Spiritual receptivity is the key disposition we need to have. What is important is not to rush into a multitude of exterior works but to discover and to practice the attitudes and behaviors that open us up to the work of the Spirit; all the rest will flow from that.” –Fr. Jacques Philippe
Challenges of the Week
  • Strive to approach Communion with gratitude. Even if you don’t feel anything as you receive Communion, thank God for the Eucharist with great faith and trust.
  • Be alert to the sacredness of Communion, especially as you walk towards him. Be aware of your heart as you take those sacred steps down the aisle.
  • Treasure your time with Jesus after you receive him in Communion. Ask him boldly for everything you need in those precious minutes.
  • When you receive Communion, talk to Jesus like a real person. You can be honest and real with him.

The Sisters of Life are women religious, who profess the three traditional vows of poverty, chastity, and obedience, and a fourth vow to protect and enhance the sacredness of human life. They were founded by Cardinal John O’Connor in New York in 1991, and received formal approbation as a religious institute in 2004, under Cardinal Edward Egan.
The mission of the Sisters of Life includes serving women who are vulnerable to abortion, giving them the support and resources to be able to choose life for themselves and their children; hosting weekend retreats; evangelization; outreach to college students; and helping women who have suffered after abortion to encounter the mercy and healing of Jesus Christ.
