Why You’re Watching Porn and How to Finally Quit

Fr. Mark-Mary, CFR, talks about the increase in habitual sin lately, and specifically how to finally quit porn.

We are going to be more vulnerable to our weakness when we are hungry, angry, lonely, and tired (remember the acronym HALT). Being bored can also lead to temptation. It’s important to also remember that, when it comes to sins like alcohol abuse and pornography, we don’t have to condone this behavior in order to be susceptible to it.

Each time we commit the sin, we develop the taste, weaken the will, and it becomes more difficult to resist the temptation.

Fr. Mark-Mary tells the story about a young woman whose husband fell into a bad porn addiction. It made her cry to tell Fr. Mark-Mary about it, because her husband’s habit made it almost impossible for him to love her. Pornography is not a victimless sin. It affects our capacity to love, and therefore hurts those we love.

We are pilgrims. Little by little, let’s kick this habit and move toward God’s kingdom.
