Father Mark-Mary of the Franciscan Friars of the Renewal says the Cross has become too much of a cliche—not that Christ’s sacrifice itself has lost its power, but it has ceased to have any influence on many of us.
Father Mark-Mary encourages us to find a crucifix, kiss it, and say a prayer like, “Jesus, I believe that you love me, I believe that you know me, and I believe that you desire to be with me forever.” This challenge will remind us of the great power the sacrifice of Christ has in and over any situation that would otherwise overpower us.
