The waiting of Advent can be a time filled with great family activities and memories. Jackie and Bobby share some activities for Advent that have helped make the season more meaningful in their family. Maybe something they do will make perfect sense for you and you household:
There’s the Jesse Tree they put up that goes through the story of salvation with ornaments for many of the major events in the Bible where God makes covenants with humanity.
Instead of the elf on the shelf, you can do “donkey on the shelf,” adding a new character to your Nativity set each of the nine days before Christmas.
Advent is also a time of giving. Prepare for Christ’s coming by serving other people. Sponsor a family or kid if your parish has a program like that.
Also, don’t forget to celebrate the Feast of St. Nicholas December 6, Our Lady of Guadalupe December 12, and St. Lucy’s Feast Day Dec. 13. These are just some of the feasts in December that point to Christ and remind us to prepare for his arrival.
