Learn…

  • The six elements of the Divine Mercy devotion
  • Why mercy is greater than forgiveness
  • How to trust Jesus when you don’t feel like it
  • Why Divine Mercy is mankind’s last hope for salvation
  • Why mercy is the highest virtue and the highest mode of love
  • How you can show others mercy
  • Why Jesus appeared to St. Faustina in 1935

What Is Mercy?

Jesus tells us that as his followers, we must show mercy to others just as our heavenly Father shows mercy to us. But how can we do that if we don’t understand what mercy is? In this first video in The Essentials of Divine Mercy series, Father Chris Alar gives an introduction to Divine Mercy, explaining how mercy is even greater than forgiveness, and why Divine Mercy is mankind’s greatest hope for salvation.

How Do We Get God’s Mercy?

Fr. Chris teaches us the ABCs of Divine Mercy, explaining that to receive God’s mercy, Scripture shows us that we need to: A. Ask God for mercy; B. Be merciful to other people; and C. Completely trust in God’s mercy for our lives. This is the message of mercy that God has been delivering to humanity since the beginning of human history. If we want to join him in heaven, we must live out each of these Divine Mercy ABCs.

Trusting God When You Don’t Feel Like It

To receive God’s mercy, we need to completely trust in  Jesus the person. But how do we do that when we feel like God has let us down, or when we’re experiencing difficulty? In this video, Fr. Chris reminds us that feelings aren’t the ultimate barometer of reality, encouraging us to have hope that when we make acts of trust in the Lord—whether we feel like we trust him or not—he will lead us according to his plan, which will ultimately fulfill the desires of our hearts.

Why God Gave Us the Message of Divine Mercy

If God’s message of Divine Mercy is eternal, why did he appear in 1931 to St. Faustina, an unknown Polish nun, and ask her to remind the world of his Mercy? In this video, Fr. Chris Alar recounts the history of the devotion of Divine Mercy, explaining the five elements of the devotion and what they can do for our spiritual lives: the Feast of Divine Mercy, the image of Divine Mercy, the novena, the Chaplet of Divine Mercy, and the Hour of Mercy. Learn how you can experience more of God’s mercy by committing yourself to the great devotion of Divine Mercy.

What can I do if my parish priest refuses to display the divine mercy image in our church? Says he is not going to put up an image that some polish nun claims to be from Jesus and that the Pope made Faustina a saint to appease the polish people! I’m not making this up! I pray for him but I’m so put out by him I can’t even go to a mass he is doing! Lord forgive me!

This was wonderful. The real truth about Divine Mercy is, I think, the best kept secret in the Catholic Church. Father Chris explains it all so beautifully. Thank you Father Chris and Ascension for getting the word out there.
