Is There A Place for Shame in the Christian Life?

When we fail, it’s easy to beat ourselves up and wallow in shame because it can feel like what we deserve. But that’s not what God asks of us.

Today Fr. Mark-Mary reminds us that if you’ve confessed a sin, God has forgiven you entirely – he is without restraint in his mercy. And by living in the freedom of the Father’s forgiveness, we profess his goodness. So if you still feel guilty about a past sin that you’ve confessed, try not to shame-spiral. Instead, Fr. Mark-Mary invites you to put yourself in the place of the prodigal son, who was completely forgiven even after a life of despondency.
