Catholic Parenting: Connection, not Perfection (with Beth Sri)

How do we navigate the anxieties and pressures that come with parenting? Beth Sri joins Dr. Sri for an honest conversation about the challenges of parenting, particularly when you’re trying to raise your kids in the Catholic Faith. Together, they share valuable insights and advice to help you parent from the Lord’s peace rather than from a place of fear and anxiety.

Shownotes

4 Stages of Parenting (Dr. Andrew Sodergren)

  • Caregiving stage (0-7 years, ensuring the survival of your child)
  • Caretaking stage (7-12 years, giving your child more autonomy and freedom to explore)
  • Coaching stage (teenage years, challenging and supporting your child)
  • Consulting stage (adult years, being available to offer advice when needed)

Tips for Parenting

  • Recognize that the desire to be a good parent is a huge win! God sees this desire and it pleases his heart.
  • Don’t be afraid to take a minute to regulate your emotions when having a tough conversation with your child. Ensure your emotions are regulated before trying to help your child regulate their feelings.
  • Vulnerability is key. If parenting struggles bring up wounds and insecurities in your own story, be sure to bring this realization to prayer. Don’t be afraid to be honest with Jesus.
  • Seek advice from people you trust if you’re feeling stuck.
